If you are a case manager or service coordinator, here is the short version: Meals Direct provides home-delivered meals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York to eligible members whose program or health plan authorizes the service. Formats include hot, frozen and specialty fresh where offered. Options vary by area and program. Start with the member's state on our locations page.
This post gives you a summary you can repeat, the details to confirm for each member's state, how referrals reach us and which member details should stay off social media.
The 60-second summary
If a member or family asks about Meals Direct, here is a summary you can share:
- Who: Meals Direct, a home-delivered meal provider for eligible members whose program or health plan authorizes meals. In New Jersey and New York, service is through Meals Direct of New Jersey LLC and Meals Direct of New York LLC.
- Where: Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, with offices in Philadelphia (headquarters), Allentown, Pittsburgh, Pennsauken NJ and Albany NY.
- What: hot, frozen and specialty fresh formats in participating locations. Options vary by area and program.
- Food: a range of culturally familiar menus, from American and Soul Food to Vietnamese, Cambodian, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Middle Eastern. Ask which are available for the member's service. Our Meals page shows the Pennsylvania catalog. For other states' menus, ask the state team. Menus vary by area.
- Cost: Some eligible members may receive authorized meal benefits at no personal cost. Coverage and authorization vary.
- Start: the member's state on our locations page.
What to confirm for the member's state
Programs differ by state, so a few details are worth confirming before you send anything:
- The member's state and ZIP code. Service areas vary within each state.
- The member's program or plan. Which program covers the member affects what is possible and how authorization works.
- Whether meals are authorized or need a request. Your program's process decides this, not the meal provider.
- Preferred language. Ask which language support is currently available for the member's state.
- The member's preferences. Cuisine, likes and dislikes, allergies and diet needs, shared through official channels.
Our locations page has a page for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

The referral route
The official referral route depends on the member's state.
Until intake confirms the route, use the contact path listed for the member's state on our locations page. The team for that state can tell you exactly how to send a referral and what information they need.
Before sending a referral, ask who will review it, what authorization is needed and how to check that it reached the correct team. A referral and a program authorization are different steps. Confirm both rather than assuming a submitted message starts service.
What not to share over social media, and how to handle email
Please never send member information through social media, including comments, direct messages or public posts. That includes:
- Names
- Health details
- ID numbers, such as Medicaid or plan numbers
- Case notes
Social media messages are not a secure channel. For email, follow your own organization's privacy rules and use only the secure route that intake confirms.
General questions, such as which states we serve, are always welcome by phone, by email or through the website chat.

Keep a useful referral note
In your organization's approved system, record the source of each instruction and the date you received it. Separate what is confirmed from what is still pending. For example, a correct state contact does not yet confirm that a member's address is served or that meals are authorized.
Before closing the conversation, identify one person responsible for the next action. Ask whether that action belongs to the referrer, member, program or provider. This gives the care team a practical next step without treating a general website inquiry as a completed referral.
